Undergraduate Research Paper Prize
2008-2009 UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH PAPER PRIZE IN Latin American and Caribbean Studies
The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies proudly announces its first annual competition for the Undergraduate Research Paper Prize in Latin American and Caribbean Studies for the Academic Year 2008-2009. The Center will award one prize of $250 for a research paper completed by an undergraduate student from any college at U of I.
The criteria for the competition are as follows:
1. The paper should focus on any topic pertaining to Latin America and the Caribbean in any discipline.
2. The paper should represent completed research of a minimum of 15 pages and should be typed and double-spaced (font 12).
3. The quality of content, analytical skills, depth of research (through bibliography and/or original research), and the originality of the work as a contribution to the field of study are among the factors that will be considered.
4. The paper should exhibit competence in research methods and stylistic preferences in their respective disciplines.
5. Papers completed in courses during the previous academic year may be submitted (Spring 08, Fall 08 or Spring 2009).
6. Students may submit only one paper for consideration for this prize.
8. Papers can be nominated either by the author her/himself or by a faculty member of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Eligibility: Any Latin Americanist/Caribbeanist paper written by someone registered as a full-time undergraduate student at the University of Illinois during the semester or term for which the paper was submitted to a class.
The Complete application includes:
- Three Copies of the paper
- Cover letter indicating name, contact information (e-mail and address), the student’s major discipline, and the class and instructor for which the paper was written.
- One letter of recommendation from a member of the UIUC faculty.
ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONS OF APPLICATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
Deadline: Papers for the competition must be received at the Center of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, 201 International Studies Building, 910 S. Fifth Street, Champaign, no later than Wednesday April 15, 2009, 4 pm. The Award will be announced around May 1, 2009.
