Marcos Cerdeira

Marcos Cerdeira graduated as an honor scholar of the Croft Institute for International Studies at the University of Mississippi. He joined CLACS in the fall of 2009. He is interested in Latin American History as well as contemporary issues, such as environmental concerns and development. Regionally, he is particularly interested in the countries of the "Southern Cone" of South America, especially Brazil.

Rebecca Linares

Rebecca

Rebecca Linares graduated with honors from the University of Kentucky in May of 2010 where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and International Studies with a concentration in International Development.She was also awarded the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Medallion at graduation for her commitment to service and her community.Now part of CLACS, Rebecca is enjoying learning Quechua as her regional focus is on Peru.She hopes to pursue research looking at the role and effect of bilingual and bi-cultural (Spanish and Quechua) education in the Peruvian highlands.

Luis Eduardo Herrera

  • Eduardo Herrera is currently a PhD candidate in musicology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is currently working on a dissertation entitled Composing Peripheries: Music Making, Philanthropy, and Foreign Policy in Argentina (1962-1971). Eduardo earned his B.A. in music history at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia, and a M.M. in music theory at the University of Illinois. His researched has focused in Argentina and Uruguay. He is interested in interactions between music and politics, Latin American music in the late 20th century, popular music in Brazil and the way philanthropy and development funds affect artistic and intellectual creation. You can see Eduardo during the weekends playing with the local Cuban music band Sandunga, and the Brazilian band Bate Calado.

Carolina Sternberg is from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and received her B.S. and Master's in Geography at the Universidad de Buenos Aires. She is currently finishing her Ph.D. in Geography and teaching in LAST 170. She is committed to understanding social inequalities in global cities, focusing her work on neoliberal governance in Latin America and North America. Her other interests are cinema, music and West African Dance.
