CLACS Outreach Library

CLACS Outreach Library aims to assist teachers with pre-K-14 materials on Latin America and the Caribbean.

Our goal is to promote understanding of Latin American and Caribbean cultures and peoples.

Our collection includes fiction and nonfiction books in English and/or Spanish and English, videos, music CDs, flashcards, and children's instruments. To download the entire list of materials, click here.

We also have the following award-winning DVDs intended for high school and college audiences:

  • Red Glass - 2008 American Wining Award. The author's love for the culture and physical setting of rural Oaxaca and northern Guatemala is shown in beautiful, descriptive detail.
  • Yumm! Que rico - 2008 American Award. A Haiku celebrating the diversity of edible plants native to the Americas-blueberries, chocolate, prickly pears, pecans and more. Each spread includes an informative paragraph explaining the probable origin, history, and some trivia for the plant described in the poem.
  • Apaga y Vamonos ("Switch off") - a tale about a usurped nation, forgotten genocide, globalization and a river in Chile
  • Children of the Silver Mountain - the history of a multi-mineral corportation in Bolivia
  • Children of Zapata - on the Zapatista National Liberation Aermy's struggle to attain justice for the Maya Indians of Chiapas
  • El Inmigrante - a documentary that examines the Mexican and American border crisis
  • Journey of Roses - the story of the globalization of the floriculture industry
  • Memories of Paradise, Coca and the Shining Path in Peru - a different perspective on the "drug wars
  • Samba! Reflections of Africa in Brazilian Culture - a film that examines the transition from a cultural clash to a new tradition

You may place your request online, and we will deliver it to you. You may also make an appointment with us at your most convenient time to look at the materials in person.

We serve the counties of Champaign, Vermillion, Douglas, Piatt, Ford and Iroquois. This service is free.
