Research topics: The Dona Francisca Health Study is exploring the feasibility of implementing a health promotion program focused around physical activity, nutrition and stress management to Brazilians aged 50 and over. In collaboration with my colleagues from Brazil, we are now in the final year of a three year study. We have designed an intervention that is culturally sensitive to the targeted population by partnering with local organizations (i.e. Municipality, Public Health Centers (PHCs), Community Health Agents (CHAs), Catholic parish) to develop and deliver an evidence-based behavioral change curriculum that incorporates religious and family activities.

He recently staged directed Mozart’s Don Giovanni in Salzburg, Austria; was guest soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with El Paso Symphony; sang the role of El Porteño in Maria de Buenos Aires by Piazzolla with Grand Rapids Opera and Handel’s Messiah with El Paso Chorale. He is an active master teacher giving voice master classes in Mexico, Italy, Texas, Michigan, New York, Austria and China. He continues to teach undergraduate and graduate voice students at UI while keeping a busy schedule with international performances in Opera, Music Theater and Oratorio. He was awarded the Licia Albanese-Puccini and the Opera Aegean awards. In the summer of 2017 he will sing the role of Diego Rivera with Cincinnati Opera in the opera Frida by X. Rodriguez which focuses on the lives of Mexican iconic figures Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.

He is also developing hybrid adsorption/membrane processes for the control of pesticides, taste-and-odor-causing compounds and other water contaminants, and working on research projects aimed at elucidating the mechanisms responsible for the formation of disinfection by-products of health concern in drinking water.

Research topics: I am a feminist archaeologist and an educator in the area of cultural heritage. My museum work focuses on community engagement and inclusive practice, particularly in diversifying the museum workforce through mentoring and career pathway programs. I am also interested in visitor studies research in museum spaces, especially in examining the impact of bilingualism. My archaeological research employs a feminist lens in the study of usewear on bone tools and highlights the invisibilized labor of women and elders in the past. I have done research on ethnographic and historic collections worldwide and on the archaeology of Ice Age Spain and Ancestral Pueblo communities in the American Southwest.
